David Chiriboga

David Chiriboga, MD, MPH, Department of Medicine, University of Massachusetts Medical School

Dr. Chiriboga’s career has spanned from working as a physician at the local level, with indigenous people living in extreme poverty in Ecuador, for over a decade, to the national, regional and international arenas. He became Minister of Health of Ecuador and President of the Council of Health Ministers of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and served as member of WHO’s Executive Board and Vice-president of the 63rd World Health Assembly. His career also shifted from clinical and surgical work to public health, academia, and broader issues of health systems, research and policy, focusing on health equity and sustainability.
